The street side

Yale has a number of Neo-Gothic buildings which inspired Saarinen's design. He also stated that the winding streets and towers of San Gimignano (Italy) were an influence.

The rough walls are made of a yellowish aggregate. Windows occur infrequently in vertical bands.

A tall residential unit and entrance views

The neo-medieval design uses stepped passageways, winding alleys, and little "monasteries" as dormitory rooms for studious Yalies.
