Fish

One aspect of my ceramic work has taken a direction, comprised of wall mounted and freestanding fish sculptures, and vessels with low relief aquatic imagery. These pieces are constructed from wheel-thrown and hand built parts when the clay has hardened to the leatherhard stage. My interest in the fish as a sculptural object centers on its movement, form, and color, rather than on a literal replica of a particular type of the animal. I take inspiration from the infinite variety of shapes, textures, and color combinations, which fish exhibit in nature, and find the sleek form itself, with its contrasting fin and tail structures, an exciting instigation for my own designs.
